After school today, our artist Sofia Leiby led an incredibly ambitious two-part silkscreening and monotype printing workshop at the Sixth Street Community Center in Alphabet City. It was a hot summer day and with all the inks, watercolors, crayons, squeegees, tarps, brushes, silkscreens....it was a good thing we had a hose!! Sofia presented us with a portfolio of her own works on paper, plus some paintings to inspire some of our young artists and then we got very hands on creating our own stencils and learning the silk screen process. After a few attempts with ink, we washed them off and started again with water colors and crayons! We even made a few very cool collaborative works too! Take a look at what an incredible after school activity Sofia Leiby created for us all!!!
Silk screen and monotype printing are in order for our upcoming Wide Rainbow Workshop with contemporary artist Sofia Leiby!! She will help us transfer paint, learn about gesture, and utilize the human hand + our own mark making to create works of art!!! We can't wait to explore Sofia's practice and learn how she creates her own abstract painting and learn the process with the Sixth Street Community Center TMW after school!!
