Returning Wide Rainbow Artist Diamond Stingily hosted a creative writing workshop today after school with the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn. Our fabulous Maia Ruth Lee went to Chinatown to source materials and picked up fun stickers and personal journals for the girls to keep and continue to write feelings, thoughts, and scribbles as directed by Diamond. During her cathartic workshop in Bushwick the girls talked about POSITIVITY, LOVE and the FUTURE. Thank you Diamond for leading such an intimate and lovely Wide Rainbow Workshop with us!!
We had the absolute pleasure of working with renown artist and fringe fashion designer Susan Cianciolo who hosted a Wide Rainbow Workshop with the Young Women's Leadership School in Bushwick today. She created an embroidery activity for the girls to create there own fashion, pieces, pillows, or even little sculptures inspired by here own works of art + DIY fashion lines from the 90s. Susan also gave the girls a tutorial by drawing on some recycled fabric swatches, adding colors with fabric markers, giving basic sowing instructions to make there own works of art come alive!! Check out all the fun fabrics and recycled materials the girls got to play with during Susan Cianciolo's Wide Rainbow Workshop yesterday in Bushwick!!
Sculptor and contemporary artist Elizabeth Jaeger joined us for another Wide Rainbow Workshop today at the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn. She presented a cool slide-show of some recent exhibitions, sculptures, and talked about her artist process. After inspiring the girls with her artworks, she explained a two-part workshop sharing origami techniques as well as making little sculptures + jewelry with 'magic clay'. Look at these all these fun images of the girls creating origami boxes to enclose their very own resin and bedazzled jewelry sculptures! Thank you Elizabeth for such a fabulous workshop and introducing us to new materials, the Japanese art of folding, and letting us create wearable art with you!!
Our past Wide Rainbow Artist Elizabeth Jaeger will be joining us again this Monday for another Wide Rainbow Workshop in Bushwick with the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn! Maia Ruth Lee hosted our 1st Wide Rainbow Workshop with the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn today after school! She put together an incredible slide show of symbols, glyphs, and the transition of images over time as a platform to share her own artistic practice including sculpture, painting, and even some conceptual play. She introduced the girls to some old school 70s and 80s clip-art that became the inspiration for the workshop. From there, Maia gave every girl a canvas tote bag, a ton of iron-on design decals + clip art elements, and some fun fabric markers to get creative!! We all had a blast turning tote bags into cool works of art and expanding to our new neighborhood of Bushwick with the YWLN!!!
