The Lower Eastside Girls Club got an all-access visit to the Whitney Museum with Wide Rainbow artist Dora Budor to DREAMLANDS: IMMERSIVE CINEMA AND ART, 1905–2016 today after school!! Dora shared her favorite pieces and led the girls through maze of installations, films, video art, animation and powerful light + soundscapes eventually leading to her very own work of art included in the exhibition. She shared her interest in Hollywood cinema, the body, and the sensory space she created with the help of neurologists as well as opened up a thoughtful discussion with the girls. We can't thank Dora enough for making this dreamy after school walk-through come to life!! Also, the Whitney Museum for opening their doors to us once again. Much love to all the curators involved and a special thanks to @Via car service for providing transportation all the from Avenue D!
Be sure to experience Dreamland too! On view through Feb 2017

The Sixth Street Community Center visited with artist Diamond Stingily and her exhibition 'Elephant Memory' at nearby Ramiken Crucible today after school. Diamond met a group of wonderfully inquisitive youngsters and let them explore her video projection, sculptures, and overall installation. She gave a thoguhtful Q+A around our circle and gave some great advice to some these young artists on poetry, writing, and in becoming an artist. It was an awesome afternoon and we can't thank Diamond enough for having us as well as her gallery Ramiken Crucible!

Yesterday after school we had a special Wide Rainbow Workshop with video artist Rachel Rose who shared a projection of her recent piece 'Everything and More' with some awesome young artists at Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside. Along with a little milk, baking soda, and food dye Rachel wanted us to recreate the cosmos similar to how she did while editing her video and inspired the girls to make cool abstract works of art with simple household materials. After manipulating some cool dyes and making wild blobs of color Rachel had the girls to take instant Polaroid closeups similar to how she created her otherworldly universe in the video piece. The girls got to experience her video, make fun abstract artworks, and even take instant photographs with their own point-of-view!! Thank you Rachel for such an inspiring and cool video art workshop!
Thrilled to have contemporary video artist Rachel Rose kick off our 2016/2017 Wide Rainbow school year with Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside. Rachel will be projecting her recent video project exhibited last year at the Whitney Museum : Everything and More . She'll create a hands on abstract activity inspired by her out-of-this-world film stills. Looking forward to an awesome after school workshop and reconnecting with Wide Rainbow artist Rachel Rose!!!
