Maia Ruth Lee hosted our 1st Wide Rainbow Workshop with the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn today after school! She put together an incredible slide show of symbols, glyphs, and the transition of images over time as a platform to share her own artistic practice including sculpture, painting, and even some conceptual play. She introduced the girls to some old school 70s and 80s clip-art that became the inspiration for the workshop. From there, Maia gave every girl a canvas tote bag, a ton of iron-on design decals + clip art elements, and some fun fabric markers to get creative!! We all had a blast turning tote bags into cool works of art and expanding to our new neighborhood of Bushwick with the YWLN!!!
We are thrilled to have another returning Wide Rainbow Artist from last year: Maia Ruth Lee (who is also our new Director and Artist Liaison) lead a workshop in Bushwick with the Young Women's Leadership High School of Brooklyn TMW!! Maia will introduce this brand new school to our Wide Rainbow program, her practice, and everyone will get to create a take home artist tote with cool clip art!!! Looking forward to an after school workshop and expanding into Bushwick!!!
Before emojis and even before computers, there were decorative borders & 1970s clip art! Check out artist Maia Ruth Lee's incredible T- shirt workshop introducing Girls Prep Middle School to new art books and design elements of the past. All we needed were some basic white t-shirts, a few irons and some colorful fabric pens yo make these fine art/ clip art T's come alive!!
Thrilled to have artist Maia Ruth Lee lead a t-shirt making workshop exploring clipart and decorative borders from decades past with Girls Prep Middle School. Maia will also give the girls a special walkthrough of her current solo exhibition of paintings based on similar 1970s design elements at her gallery Eli Ping Frances Perkins in Chinatown! An art workshop and adventure to come!
