Contemporary artist Sarah Braman will be joining us TMW at Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside. Sarah creates large scale sculptures and constructs installations with found materials like wood, left-over car parts, and discarded goods while pairing them with brightly colored glass to breathe new light. Her sculptures are monumental and she's been known to create groovy environments with interesting spatial constructs too. Sara will be bringing in some left over materials from her studio to share with the girls along with a presentation and workshop inspired by her own methods of construction and art making! Looking forward to a super fun workshop TMW with Sarah on Ave A!!!
Today after school we hosted an onsite Wide Rainbow Workshop with returning artist Elizabeth Jaeger at NADA New York! Elizabeth hosted a fun sculpture workshop with group of families, fellow artists, art fair visitors, and anyone who wanted to join us for about on hour at the NADA stage. We used magic-sculpt and some fun left over materials from past workshops to create unique sculptures and works of art inspired by the pieces that Elizabeth had exhibited at the fair with Jack Hanley Gallery. Take a look at all the fun we had including giving out some cool new Wide Rainbow T-Shirts that LQQK Studio helped us create!!!
Today contemporary painter Hayal Pozanti joined us for an another Wide Rainbow Workshop with Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside. We learned how to create cool abstract paintings and color coded compositions like her own works of art. Hayal first gave us a slide show presentation of her studio and shared some insight into her art practice to inspire the girls. After that, she gave us a little number quiz and questionnaire to pair with a key of symbols that she created for the girls. Using those secret symbols and some colorful acrylic paint the girls made their own coded abstract paintings like Hayal's!! Take a look at all the fun creations and works of art from this awesome abstract workshop.
We are absolutely thrilled that Nicole Eisenman will be hosting a Wide Rainbow Workshop Today after school with the Lower Eastside Girls Club on Ave D. Nicole has proposed an traditional figure drawing workshop with our high school girls and we can't wait to see what this celebrated portrait artist has in store!!
We had the absolute pleasure of working with renown artist and fringe fashion designer Susan Cianciolo who hosted a Wide Rainbow Workshop with the Young Women's Leadership School in Bushwick today. She created an embroidery activity for the girls to create there own fashion, pieces, pillows, or even little sculptures inspired by here own works of art + DIY fashion lines from the 90s. Susan also gave the girls a tutorial by drawing on some recycled fabric swatches, adding colors with fabric markers, giving basic sowing instructions to make there own works of art come alive!! Check out all the fun fabrics and recycled materials the girls got to play with during Susan Cianciolo's Wide Rainbow Workshop yesterday in Bushwick!!
What an awesome after school workshop with artist and illustrator Aidan Koch at Girls Prep Middle School! Aidan created a cool comic book workshop and introduced some of her own illustrations, sculptures, and recent exhibitions in a slide show presentation to inspire the girls! After her introduction, we started with a collaborative comic strip warm-up and then moved on to making one big group comic! From anime characters to story arcs - Aidan led a dynamic and informative Wide Rainbow Workshop. She even left a few of her own publications for the girls to take home and will be turning our after school activity into a real published comic book soon!!! Much love to Aidan for returning this school year and hosting another stellar workshop with us in the Lower Eastside ;)
Conceptual artist Dora Budor has invited the Lower Eastside Girls Club to the Whitney Museum for an intimate tour of DREAMLANDS: IMMERSIVE CINEMA AND ART, 1905–2016 as well as her very own installation included in the show!!!
