Colorful sculptural constructions galore during Sarah Braman's Wide Rainbow Workshop with Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside yesterday after school. Sarah gave an awesome slideshow of her monumental sculptures and installations that inspired the girls to construct their very own colorful artworks with found objects and discarded materials! Sarah brought in pieces of neon plastics, wood she found upstate, mirrored pieces and debris she's collected from her studio for the girls to work with. After her inspiring slideshow of recent gallery exhibitions and artworks indoors and out in nature, she gave us a understanding of balance + helped us build strong foundations, but quickly let the creative juices flow! Check our all the awesome works of arts and sculptures inspired by Sarah!
Today contemporary painter Hayal Pozanti joined us for an another Wide Rainbow Workshop with Girls Prep Middle School in the Lower Eastside. We learned how to create cool abstract paintings and color coded compositions like her own works of art. Hayal first gave us a slide show presentation of her studio and shared some insight into her art practice to inspire the girls. After that, she gave us a little number quiz and questionnaire to pair with a key of symbols that she created for the girls. Using those secret symbols and some colorful acrylic paint the girls made their own coded abstract paintings like Hayal's!! Take a look at all the fun creations and works of art from this awesome abstract workshop.
We are absolutely thrilled that Nicole Eisenman will be hosting a Wide Rainbow Workshop Today after school with the Lower Eastside Girls Club on Ave D. Nicole has proposed an traditional figure drawing workshop with our high school girls and we can't wait to see what this celebrated portrait artist has in store!!
What an awesome after school workshop with artist and illustrator Aidan Koch at Girls Prep Middle School! Aidan created a cool comic book workshop and introduced some of her own illustrations, sculptures, and recent exhibitions in a slide show presentation to inspire the girls! After her introduction, we started with a collaborative comic strip warm-up and then moved on to making one big group comic! From anime characters to story arcs - Aidan led a dynamic and informative Wide Rainbow Workshop. She even left a few of her own publications for the girls to take home and will be turning our after school activity into a real published comic book soon!!! Much love to Aidan for returning this school year and hosting another stellar workshop with us in the Lower Eastside ;)
The Lower Eastside Girls Club got an all-access visit to the Whitney Museum with Wide Rainbow artist Dora Budor to DREAMLANDS: IMMERSIVE CINEMA AND ART, 1905–2016 today after school!! Dora shared her favorite pieces and led the girls through maze of installations, films, video art, animation and powerful light + soundscapes eventually leading to her very own work of art included in the exhibition. She shared her interest in Hollywood cinema, the body, and the sensory space she created with the help of neurologists as well as opened up a thoughtful discussion with the girls. We can't thank Dora enough for making this dreamy after school walk-through come to life!! Also, the Whitney Museum for opening their doors to us once again. Much love to all the curators involved and a special thanks to @Via car service for providing transportation all the from Avenue D!

Wide Rainbow artist Julia Rommel invited Girls Prep Middle School to visit her painting exhibition 'Man Alive' at Bureau Gallery in the Lower Eastside. The girls had to walk just a few blocks from school to realize an exciting space filled with abstract paintings and lots of color!! Julia welcomed everyone to experience the show and then had a really fun discussion after. The girls were very insightful as Julia talked about her experience in NYC as an artist as well as the landscape paintings surrounding us all. Each colorful painting made up with folds and lots of twists + turns!! We can't thank Julia and her gallery Bureau enough for having us by. Check out some images from this Wide Rainbow walk-through and if you too happen to be in the neighborhood, be sure to stop Julia's stellar show!!
