Tribute to Kim Lane
A heartfelt note from friend Bridget Donahue:
Kimberly Anne Lane died peacefully Thursday, May 3rd, 2018, after a heartbreaking battle with Picks disease. She was 40 years old. Kim grew up in Pompton Lakes, NJ, attended the University of Hartford, where she earned a degree in Art History and had been working towards her Masters at Hunter College. Kim was a friend of mine and a professional colleague when she and I worked together at Gladstone Gallery and Gavin Brown’s enterprise. Kim was also a registrar at Christie’s and 303 Gallery. She was diligent, fun-loving, sporty and had a boisterous laugh. Kim loved to travel and had trekked throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Before being taken over by this disease, Kim talked to me about transitioning a her career as a registrar in contemporary galleries to something that gave back to the community more, especially arts education programs for kids. Wide Rainbow, a non-profit organization with similar aims as those Kim had, feels like the most active group linking up practicing artists with the galleries we work in to develop youth programs for art education. In Kim’s name, we are making donations as a final tribute to her legacy.
